A Southport fishmonger has revealed the strict hygiene and food safety rules he is maintaining as he delivers food to people during the coronavirus outbreak.
Kevin Peet, owner of Peets Plaice, has been serving customers at his shop in Churchtown in Southport for the past six years.
The shop has already been awarded a Food Hygiene Rating of 5 stars out of 5 by Sefton Council’s food safety team, which is proudly displayed inside the premises.

Kevin wanted to ensure that people could enjoy all of their favourite fresh and frozen fish and seafood without having to leave the safety of their own home. Payments made through ordering are safe, with site security paramount.
But when delivering to people’s homes, Kevin ensures that the highest food hygiene and food safety measures he already employed in his Peets Plaice shop are maintained while he is out delivering.
Kevin said: “We use lots of hand gel whenever we are in the shop, and also when I am in the van out delivering. We all wash our hands regularly, and follow government guidelines closely.

“We are proud to be a shop with a five star food hygiene rating.
“I wear a hygiene face mask while out delivering, and disinfect the handles of the van after every use. Because customers can order and pay online, we can then deliver and leave the food parcels right outside customers’ doors so there is no need for contact like you would get by going into a shop.
“And when delivering our fish and seafood and everyday food essentials, having a special refrigerated van also helps.”
The vans help with deliveries of fresh fish such as cod, salmon, hake, halibut and more.
But also very popular are frozen goods such as Southport potted shrimps, deluxe fish fingers, Arctic Royal prawns and king prawns, scampi, seafood and fish wellingtons.
Kevin said: “We have over 100 different products on our Peets Plaice website now, and we will keep adding to that when new fresh fish becomes available, or when customers ask us for new essential products.
“Shopping, ordering and paying via our website couldn’t be easier.
“We are proud to be able to offer this essential new service to our many loyal customers and to the Southport community.”
